Interview with Martin Ranscombe

The sky was never the limit. At least it never was for Martin. He started his career in aerospace, but eventually discovered his passion for space through his work at OHB as a schedule manager.

His highlights in his career before starting working in the space industry were working at Airbus on the first A380 aircraft, where he learnt about Lean Manufacturing and Design for Assembly in high-volume production. Later he moved to Australia, and worked on the design of the Joint Strike Fighter aircraft, where they operated ‘round the world’ Concurrent Engineering with US and UK companies.

Just like the majority of the team at Rivada, he doesn't spend much time on relaxing but always keeps moving. "A lot of time is spent walking our crazy dog. Other than that, you would probably find me making something, fixing something, travelling, cycling or playing table tennis."

Head of Project Control

What’s your role at Rivada Space Networks?

What’ did you want to become when you were a child?

As the Head of Project Control, I maintain the Project Master Schedule, Risk Register and Project Costs.

As the project moves forward, the team will need to grow, especially in the area of Configuration. So, I can then share these activities with others!

I always wanted to be a pilot. I got my Private Pilot’s License in 1994 and finally got the opportunity to train for a Commercial license in 2001. Unfortunately, due to 9/11, there were no longer any jobs available, so I returned to building aircraft instead of flying them.

What makes you feel
excited about our journey?

Exactly what makes it challenging is also what makes it exciting! The speed and scale of the project is dramatic and there is always something new happening. This type of project does not come along very often, so I am thrilled to be part of it.

What motivates you in your daily work?

The motivation comes from being involved in something brand new at the edge of technology, whilst working in a team that is always pulling together to be successful. Very refreshing! Any contribution is welcome, so I enjoy supporting the implementation of new IT tools.
